Kas Timo Ridder
Born in the Netherlands, Kas manifested a unique talent for the interplay of structure and shape. Whether it’s a canvas, skull, wall, or sheet of glass, Kas continues to aesthetically redefine his environment in telling and revealing ways.
To some, what appears as a morbid curiosity with death and decay is through the eyes of Kas Ridder an examination and reflection of mortality, transformation, and permanence.
Kastro evokes the marriage of Western and Eastern philosophical traditions on the themes and motifs surrounding death. Where the end, is presented as a simultaneous moment of interconnection and rebirth through artifact.
Utilizing bones, discarded objects, and other aged pieces, Kas has found a medium through which to explore the contrast between destruction and creation. Sometimes annihilating his own pieces just to reconstruct them again in unexpected forms.
Like his work, Kastro believes his task is not only to illuminate our shared relationship with death, but sees it as an expression of his ideology. That our social systems should be continually deconstructed, examined, and reformed to the betterment of our collective human experience.
