Robert Lak
Robert Lak's life and artistic journey reflect a profound connection to his roots and an openness to diverse cultural influences. Born in Subotica, in the northern part of Yugoslavia during the tumultuous Yugoslavian war in the fall of 1994, his early years were shaped by political and social upheaval. Remarkably, despite the geopolitical changes that saw his hometown belong to three different countries, Subotica remained his steadfast home until adulthood.
Lak pursued his higher education across borders, studying in Szeged, Hungary, and broadening his horizons with a semester at ÉESAB, the art university in Quimper, France. This international experience influenced his creative expression, culminating in his first independent exhibition, In the Captivity of Freedom, held in Subotica in 2016. This milestone marked the beginning of his active career in the art world.
Over the years, Lak has contributed to the art scene through numerous group and solo exhibitions across several European countries, including France, Romania, Serbia, Hungary, and Slovakia. His move to Budapest in 2017 further embedded him in the art community, where his work was consistently showcased.
In January 2023, Lak began a new chapter in the Netherlands, residing first in Amsterdam and Utrecht before settling in Haarlem in October 2023. Haarlem now serves as both his residence and creative base, marking an exciting phase in his ongoing artistic evolution. His journey illustrates not only his dedication to art but also his ability to navigate and thrive within different cultural and geographical landscapes.
