Samya Vermeer

Born in Amsterdam 1991. Samya Vermeer lives and works in Haarlem. She is a creative and happy goldsmith, a mother and partner and a coffee pro.

Her work is personal, creative and always unique. She creates jewellery and small objects out of (precious)metals.

She grew up in a creative family, both parents are musicians and all grandparents worked in creative sectors like dance, theater and performance. She always loved being creative, as a kid she made perfume out of flower leaves, or drawings of her stuffed animals. She painted and made statues out of clay. The seed of goldsmithing was planted by her uncle when she was seven years old. He was an amateur goldsmith and they made a ring together. She can still remember the magical feeling when she held her first shiny silver ring in her hand. A few years later she attended art school and studied Dessin Design at Vogue Academy. In her twenties she decided that she also wanted a degree to pay her bills and she studied social studies for 5 years before she realized this line of work was not for her.

Her working life started when she turned her student side job as a barista into a career. She worked at numerous cafes in Amsterdam, Haarlem and Melbourne with passion and enthusiasm. She was part of the specialty coffee industry for 18 years and almost started her own coffee place!

During covid she realized she missed being creative. She bumped into a guy on a market and he introduced her to the goldsmith course in Schoonhoven.
She strongly believes that everything happens for a reason and she started her new journey :)
